Transcript

Hey, family! Welcome to the Hands Up, Don't Shoot podcast where I, your host, Ashley France-Howell, tell stories of the lives of Black victims of police brutality. Each week, I will highlight a different person, including their life, the events leading up to their encounters with the police, and the aftermath.

We all know there are three sides to these types of stories. The victim's side, the police officer's side, and the truth. And much of the time, we're only left with two sides. I'll let you guess what those are. But now, we have an additional side: Video. Sometimes it can help the case, sometimes it doesn't.

In today's world, virtually anything can be caught on film. While being able to record and share these incidents is something that is fairly recent, the violence has been going on for much longer than we think. It goes back to before things went viral, or someone became a hashtag.

The goal of this podcast is to bring to light the issues that have continued to impact the Black community when it comes to encounters with the police. I hope you’ll take this ride with me. Thank you for listening and don't forget to subscribe now to get the latest episodes. Talk to you soon.
